The present study was carried out during in the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh state. A total of respondents including beneficiary and 50 non-beneficiary farmers were selected randomly.
The data collection was done by the use of interview schedule through personal interview. Data were analyzed with help of suitable statistical tools.
Results of the study revealed that majority of the beneficiary and non-beneficiary respondents were of middle age groups 36 to 50 years having middle school and primary school level educated, residing in nuclear family system with small size of family up to 5 members.
Majority of beneficiaries had high level of social participation as compared to non-beneficiaries. Majority of the respondents were performing agricultural activities, however they were also engaged in 2 to 3 occupation.
Majority of the respondents were having marginal land holding up to 2. Majority of the beneficiaries belonged to Rs.
Majority of the respondents were taking short term credit facility extended by government organization. Majority of the respondents had medium contact with extension agencies and medium utilization of information sources. Majority of the respondents had medium risk bearing capability.
About 65 per cent of the beneficiaries showed the medium level of participation in different ATMA activities. The findings also revealed that the mechanical power, animal husbandry, house type, home related items, possession of other assets and annual income were more in case of ATMA beneficiaries as compared to non-beneficiaries.
Majority of the beneficiaries acquired positively higher level of productivity as compared to non-beneficiaries which shows the positive impact of ATMA on socio-economical aspects of ATMA beneficiaries.
In correlation coefficient analysis of selected 13 independent variables, only 8 variables i. To extent of knowledge about ATMA was also found significant and highly correlated with socio-economic status of the beneficiaries.
In regression analysis only 5 variables i. Among the several constraints, the higher per cent of the respondents reported that poor contact between farmers and agriculture officers, non availability of appropriate literature, lack of communication facilities, poor education status of farmers, poor transport problem, lack of technical guideline, lack of incentives, conservativeness of villagers, lack of proper training at grass root level were the major constraints faced by beneficiaries in participation of different activities of ATMA.
To overcome the above constraints, majority of the beneficiary respondents suggested that information must be provided in proper time, regular contact should be made among farmers and extension officers, transportation facility should be assured and organize more and more training programme to create awareness and provide the technical knowledge about ATMA activities etc.
